LAKE HOPATCONG — The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club hosted its annual fireworks show on Friday, June 29.

Lake Hopatcong residents and visitors from surrounding areas got a chance to celebrate America's birthday a few days before the country turned 236 years old.

Lake Hopatcong was a good choice for many who wanted to escape the heat and humidity. Lakeside restaurants and homes were brimming with activity as boaters, swimmers and jet ski enthusiasts stayed cool in the water.

The work week ended with a bang at around 9:30 p.m. Fireworks lit up the night sky with bright colors for several thunderous minutes.

July 4 is a federal holiday to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
