About Pass It Along

Pass It Along is a nonprofit organization serving the northern New Jersey counties of Sussex, Morris, Essex, and Warren. Since its inception in 2001, Pass It Along has been committed to helping teenagers become confident, resilient and compassionate through self-discovery, volunteerism and leadership. By participating in the Pass It Along program, teenagers gain a strong sense of self, learn about the positive effects of helping others and are equipped to avoid risky behaviors. — In honor of national volunteer recognition week, Pass It Along recently held its annual Volunteer Recognition Celebration sponsored by the Lake Mohawk Country Club in Sparta.

The event was a night to honor and recognize all Pass It Along volunteers for their hard work and dedication to volunteer service.

Outstanding youth volunteer awards were presented to Henri Brooks and Ashley Darnsteadt, of Sparta High School, Dani Dellamo, of Sussex Technical School, and Brett Conrads, Nora Coppers, Hope Leone, and Mohammad Balatero ,of Newton High School.

Adult volunteers recognized were Mary Bernat, Cathy Parker, Lena Shugart, and Kelly Darnsteadt.

In addition, for the second year in a row, Newton High School received the outstanding high school chapter of the year award.

Lauren Donohue, of Wallkill Valley Regional High School, was recognized as the outstanding high school chapter advisor, and Project Self Sufficiency was presented the outstanding partner agency award for 2013.

PIA also awarded $3,000 in scholarships to Henri Brooks, of Sparta High School, Ashley Darnsteadt, of Sparta High School, Lauren Kruger, of Hopatcong High School, Claudia Saavedra, of Hopatcong High School, Alison Mason, of High Point High School, Mohammad Balatero, of Newton High School and Hope Leone of Newton High School.
