Little leaguers raise funds to compete at Cooperstown

NEWTON — Two area baseball teams of 12-year-old boys raised funds that allow them to make their way to the Cooperstown, New York baseball tournament this summer.
By using the online fundraising platform FlipGive, Newton’s AGX baseball team raised $22,000 in only five weeks. Another team, the 12U Outlaws from Lake Hopatcong, raised over $9,000.
“We far exceeded our expectations with very little effort,” said Janine Urbano, Outlaws’ Team Mom. “Our boys have been dreaming of competing in Cooperstown since most of them could hold a bat and now with funds in hand, their dream can come true.”
The cost for each team to compete in Cooperstown is approximately $23,000 once registration, travel costs and so much more are factored in. With traditional fundraising efforts this amount could not have been met. FlipGive is a free online fundraising platform that offers teams, leagues and schools a brand new way to raise money.
Fundraising groups shop online through their fundraising page for everyday items from hundreds of brands including Nike, Starbucks, Fanatics, Barnes & Noble and Under Armour and earn up to 50% cash back for their chosen fundraiser.
“Traditional fundraising, including sports pools, community cleanups and clothing drives would not allow us to achieve our fundraising goal, so FlipGive was a no-brainer," said Nick Sabatino, AGX coach. “The funds we were able to raise is allowing our players, who may not have been able to otherwise, to go to Cooperstown."
FlipGive has supported over 25,000 fundraising teams and helped them break cost barriers.
"Cost of youth sports continues to increase which is worrisome for the future growth of youth sports as we know it," said Mark Bachman, CEO of FlipGive, "Participating on sports teams should be driven by ability to play, not pay and I am thrilled that FlipGive is helping close the sports opportunity gap."
“FlipGive allowed us to easily reach families and friends - even those who do not live in the same community," Sabatino said. "It has been truly amazing to see the power of a community come together to raise money for our team.”
