Easter L. (Lillian) Rogerson passed away at the age of 99 on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, while residing at Valley View Care Center in Newton. Lillian was a longtime resident of Lake Mohawk in Sparta, then lived independently for twelve years at Knoll Heights Village.

Born in Queens, New York, Lillian went to Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, New York. After her marriage, she and her husband, Bob, lived in Ridgewood, but soon after purchased a summer home in Lake Mohawk, where Lillian continued to live even after his death. Bob was a New York City Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1975. Lillian had been a widow for 42 years.

Lillian was active in Community Theater in Glendale, New York. She enjoyed tap dancing and was an active member of the Sparta Women’s Club and the Morris County Red Hat Society. An avid traveler, Lillian visited China, Alaska, Germany, England, France, California, Florida and Louisiana. She was elected Sparta’s Senior of the Year in 1998. A devoted mother and grandmother, Lillian never missed a dance recital or a softball or basketball game. She especially enjoyed baking with her grandchildren and volunteering her time. Lillian was a wonderful role model for her children and grandchildren and will be deeply missed.

Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Rogerson, and her brother, Jack Mayer of Virginia. She is survived by her son, Robert Buback and his wife, Anna, and her granddaughter, Lizzy, of Lake Mohawk, Sparta; her daughter, Deborah Cafferata and her husband, Al, and her two granddaughters, Maria and Katie, of Lake Mohawk, Sparta; as well as her niece, Dianne Mayer and her daughter, Annie, of Maryland.

A memorial mass will be held in Lillian’s honor at Saint Kateri Roman Catholic Church in Sparta in the coming weeks. She will be laid to rest at the Long Island Veteran’s National Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.
