Sparta - The movie "Beautiful Boy" will be shown at at 7 p.m. at The Newton Theatre on Monday, Nov. 19, and Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 234 Spring Street in Newton. The film handles the important and relevant topic of addiction. Teenager Nicolas Sheff seems to have it all; good grades, and he's editor of the school newspaper. He is an actor, artist, and athlete. When Nic's addiction to meth threatens to destroy him, his desperate father does whatever he can to save his son and his family. The screenplay is based on two memoirs, that of the father and of the son: Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction and Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines. The storyline will especially resonate with families facing the struggles of addiction and its impact on families, and is timely considering the state and nation's crisis of addiction.
