— More than 25 teams are expected to compete for the opportunity to advance to state, national and international competition when Lenape Valley High School hosts the Robo-Harvest IV FIRST® Tech Challenge on Sunday, November 19.

Since September, teams of students around the world have been designing, programming and building robots to complete this year’s Relic Recovery® challenge. Lenape Valley Robotics Team 9244, now in its fourth year, is the first Sussex County school to host an FTC event.

The Lenape Valley Robotics team attempts to prepare its children for the real world, with strong focuses on teamwork, professionalism, and hands-on problem solving while developing a passion for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

All FTC teams are required to develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles. Awards are given for the competition as well as for community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments. Teams advance from local qualifying tournaments to state and regional championship tournaments before advancing to the World Championship Tournament, held each year in April.

The event is open to the public free of charge. Doors open at 9 a.m. Match play will begin at 10 a.m. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be available for purchase.

Lenape Valley Regional High School is located at 29 Sparta Road, Stanhope.
