NEWTON — The Big Hall at the Auxilium School on Old Swartswood Road in Newton was full of excitement on Tuesday morning, Nov. 14, as the students buzzed around in patriotic attire singing bits and pieces of songs they were about to perform for local veterans. The school’s Veterans Day assembly is special each year and this year was no exception; the children were thrilled to sing and give handmade gifts to the veterans who were equally thrilled to be honored in such a beautiful way. In attendance were: Airforce veterans Jim Launsbery, Karl Broton and Sister Jen Kane; Navy veteran Corey Karas; Army veterans Lee Wagner and Leo Beshada; and Marine veteran Gary McCardle. Many of the veterans in attendance were relatives of children at the school. The assembly was followed with refreshments for the veterans who were then able to share time with each other and the students who invited them.
