This week Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) hailed the signing of the bipartisan deal that he voted for to keep the government open, strengthen America's borders, and help fund the Gateway Project.

House Republicans and Democrats came together to pass the legislation in a 300-128 vote. The deal includes $540 million in resources to help keep the Gateway tunnel project on track.

"Today, through bipartisan compromise and common sense, we have avoided another senseless government shutdown and supported national priorities, including protections against homegrown, Lone Wolf terror and the Gateway Project, that will help keep New Jersey safe. This deal is a signal that Democrats and Republicans can work together to invest in America's infrastructure, fight terror, and stand up for America's values," said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). The funding also included resources for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program -- a program that helped the Paramus Police Department hire new officers with a $1.8 million grant in 2017-- support for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program, the STOP School Violence Act, the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI), and the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NPSG), to help protect our religious schools, churches and synagogues.
