The news business center at Kittatinny High School will offer resume building, job hunting, and networking. Raising funds for the business center was fun this week, as the school held a Sumo wrestling event to help.

Kittatinny FBLA hosts fundraiser for new business center

Hampton- Laughter echoed through the gymnasium at Kittatinny Regional High School on Wednesday evening, May 15, during a Sumo Suit Wrestling Event held by the Future Business Leaders of America to raise funds for a new business and career center.

Students from clubs throughout the school participated in the event, with the Madrigal Choir opening the event with the national anthem and the cheerleaders performing a dance routine. Several wrestling matches were on the undercard, but the main event was between business teacher and event organizer Theresa Iliff and head wrestling coach John Gill.

The crowd cheered as Iliff at first eluded and then succumbed to Gill’s superior wrestling knowledge. Iliff was then theatrically removed from the mat by the attending Blue Ridge Rescue Squad before returning triumphantly to acknowledge her fans.

The event drew dozens of attendees and also included face painting, concessions, and a giant inflatable for young children.

“That was fun,” Iliff said after her ‘loss’ to Gill, “We wanted to do something unique, and we did.”

Funds collected during the event will support the opening of a business center at the high school, one which Iliff believes may be the first of its kind around the region. The center will offer resources on job hunting, resume building, and interview skills, and will connect career-bound students with local businesses seeking new employees.
