NJ Fit Mom owner, Jessica Sampieri-Griffin of Blairstown was looking for a local cause to donate to over the holidays. November is Hospice month and she had her own experience with hospice when she lost her dad to kidney cancer four years ago, also in November.

So when she heard about the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice she was happy to do a fundraiser for a project that was both local and close to her heart.

The Home for Hospice will be the first of its type in the Sussex and Warren County area. It is being built in Fredon, just a few miles from where she runs one of her Boot Camps. Some of the men and women she trains have also had their own experiences with hospice and were willing to get behind the worthy project.

As a not for profit hospice, Quinlan depends on fundraising activities through the community so Griffin, a CPT and CrossFit L-1 trainer, created Burn the Bird for Hospice.

The WOD (CrossFit speak for Workout of the Day) was held the Saturday after Thanksgiving at her Elite Training space in Blairstown. Exercises like Gobble Gobble Goblet Squats and Pumpkin Pie Pushups added to the fun! Participants donated at the door and she also accepted donations at her Boot Camp classes in Fredon and Long Valley.

Griffin will be holding The 12 Days of NJFitmas WOD for Hospice on Saturday Dec 29th. All levels are welcome and proceeds will again go to the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice. Contact Jess to find out more at njfitmom@yahoo.com or 973-229-5788.
