American Glass Museum Director presents 'NJ Glass Tradition'

A&E. On Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019 the Sparta Historical Society will host guest speaker Kristin Qualls, Director of Museum of American Glass from which the Van Kirk Homestead Museum’s fall exhibit is on loan. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Sparta Presbyterian Church.

Sparta Historical Society welcomes Kristin Qualls, Director of Exhibitions and Collections at Wheaton Arts & Cultural Center in Millville NJ where she manages the day-to-day staff, programming and operations of the Museum of American Glass. JBrian Reilly, a glassblower who used to work in the WheatonArts Glass Studio and is now employed with Simon Pearce, will join Kristin Qualls to talk about the steps of glass making. He will also bring a few of their newest glass pumpkins for purchase. Join them for an exploration of hand made glass in New Jersey from its colonial origins to today’s contemporary art.

The event takes place at 7-8:30 p.m. at Sparta Presbyterian Church, 32 Main Street. There is no charge for members, and the cost is $5 for the public. Refreshments will be served after the presentation.

Additionally, the public can on Sunday, Sept. 22 view the exhibit “New Jersey Glass: Earth, Wind & Fire." The museum will be open every second and fourth Sunday at 1-4 p.m., with 2 p.m. talk, through Dec. 8, 2019.
