Dozens packed the back patio of the Mohawk House on Saturday afternoon, Oct 5, for the Sparta Fraternal Order of Police Annual Oktoberfest. The event, which featured traditional German food, beer, and music from Party King Entertainment, raised money for the FOP’s charitable programs which benefit youth and families in need in Sparta and throughout the state.

Sparta Mayor Molly Whilesmith said the event is one she looks forward to every year, and former mayor and current Freeholder Joshua Hertzberg said the Oktoberfest speaks to the giving nature of the residents.

Kurt Morris is the event coordinator for the Sparta FOP, and he expressed his gratitude to the Mohawk House owners and staff for helping them pull off a successful afternoon. He also thanked the Nielsen Automotive group for a generous donation.

“The weather turned out to be perfect, and the turnout and show of support for the union and the police department were overwhelming,” Morris said.
