“Either we can stand in the wings and watch, or we can make a decision to take center stage and play the leading role in our own life story.”

This is the mantra of author and speaker Sandra Joseph. Her incomparable run as Christine Daae, in Phantom of the Opera, consists of 10 years and more than 1,3000 performances. She has been featured on numerous international broadcasts and on Thursday, Oct. 10, she will perform at Sussex County Community College's Performing Arts Center in “An Evening with the Sandra Joseph All-Stars” to benefit the SCARC Foundation.

“Each year the SCARC Foundation hosts special benefit concerts in support of its mission and commitment to making a difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities,” said Chris Hemmer who has been involved with the SCARC Foundation for 10 years and serves as Chief Development Officer.

This year will be the third Evening with Sandra Joseph All-Stars, and attendees will enjoy a magical evening of Broadway hit songs performed by Broadway stars right here in Sussex County.

Hemmer said that planning involves coordinating with Joseph and her team as well as the college.

“Sandra and the talented performers really have become part of the SCARC family,” he said. “This will be the fifth time Sandra is performing at a SCARC event and she really enjoys putting on the show and helping a great organization.”

Other performers that evening will include Carter Calvert. Carter is best known for her amazing voice and originating her role in the Tony-nominated Broadway musical It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues. She is an accomplished actress, as well as a popular voice-over artist. She has been featured in numerous national television and radio commercials.

Lawrence Clayton will also be on stage. Clayton appeared nationally as Jean Valjean in 25th anniversary production of Les Miserables. He has starred in the New York Premier of Jerry Springer the Opera at Carnegie Hall with Harvey Keitel and reprised the role at the Sydney Opera House. Broadway appearances include Bells Are Ringing; It Ain't Nothin' but the Blues, The Civil War, Once upon a Mattress, and Dreamgirls.

Accompanying the other stars will be Ron Bohmer, an American actor and singer best known for his musical theater roles on Broadway. He has starred in numerous Broadway productions, including The Scarlet Pimpernel, Les Miserables, and Fiddler on the Roof, and toured the United States playing such parts as the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera and Joseph Smith in The Book of Mormon. As a concert soloist he has performed with symphony orchestras around the world.
