The new owners of Sparta Books invite the community to a celebration on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A fun day is planned with plenty of giveaways, games, prizes and basket raffles.

“We want to meet all the wonderful people who have supported Sparta Books and welcome them into the store,” says Jennifer Carlson, who purchased the store with her husband, Brad Carlson, in August. “Our shelves are full of books and wonderful new gifts, and our calendar is filling up with exciting new events.”

Sparta Books has been a mainstay of the Sparta community since 1965. “The store has survived recessions and pandemics,” says Carlson. “We believe the store’s success is due to a firm foundation in the community built by the original and subsequent long-time owners, and an incredible staff. Linda Schurmann and Susan Perricone are famous locally for not only their book recommendations, but also for welcoming people into the Sparta Books family. It’s not just a store, it’s a gathering place for children and adults to socialize and have fun. And that’s exactly the tradition we plan to continue.”

Sparta Books is an independent bookstore established in 1965. In addition to offering bestselling fiction and non-fiction books, Sparta Books features a large young adult and children’s area, local authors and gifts, including unique gifts for booklovers. Monthly events include book clubs, Lego nights, story time and author visits. The store is located at 29 Center Street.
