Two local Cub Scout dens the Webelos II and the Bear Den, both in Pack 96, earned badges through a volunteer experience this Fall when they helped several organizations plant vegetation. That's when Kemah Lake Property Owners Association (KLPOA) volunteers, the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority, Wallkill River Watershed Management Group and Rutgers Cooperative Housing Association Extension, Water Resources Program coordinated the construction and planting of the Kemah Lake Rain Garden along Edgewater Drive at the Big Beach.

On Saturday, October 19, Maureen Newman, KLPOA Board Member and a substitute teacher and YMCA Camp naturalist, taught the two Cub Scout dens a Survival course as a thank you at Swartswood State Park. After demonstrating necessary items and survival skills followed by lively discussion, the scouts built a debris shelter.
