Catherine Jennings and Heather Raquet joined the Sparta Education Foundation (SEF) as board members during the Oct. 1 Board meeting.

“We are happy to welcome Catherine and Heather as our newest Trustees,” said Donna West, President of the SEF. “They both personify the spirit of our community and bring high levels of energy, talent and experience to the table. We are fortunate to have them by our side as we continue our vision of funding innovative educational grants.”

Catherine Jennings has been a teacher in the Sparta school district since 1997 and currently teaches 4th grade language arts at the Helen Morgan School. She and her husband, Rob, have lived in Sparta since 2006 and are the parents of two boys. Catherine is a Sparta Little League Baseball board member and an enthusiastic supporter of Sparta’s public schools.

Heather Raquet has lived in Sparta for 23 years. A 2011 graduate of Sparta High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and history from The College of New Jersey. She currently teaches 5th grade at the Helen Morgan School. Last year, Heather applied for and received funding for Google Expeditions Virtual Reality Kits at Helen Morgan School, a grant approved by the SEF. She realized she wanted to become more closely involved with an organization that positively impacts so many students and teachers in district.

Since 2006, the Sparta Education Foundation has funded over $1,067,000 in grants to all five of Sparta’s public schools. The Foundation is an all-volunteer, independent 501 (c) (3) NJ Non-Profit Corporation whose mission is to engage the entire community in philanthropic giving.
