John William Bauerlein

John William Bauerlein of Andover Township, N.J., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, at his home. He was 85.

John was born July 8, 1936, in Englewood, N.J., to the late Henry and Emma (Alfano) Bauerlein. He grew up in Fort Lee, N.J., before moving to Andover Township over 50 years ago.

He married his high school sweetheart, Hilda Mae Bauerlein in 1959. He was a proud Army Reserve veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a Labor Unions manager in Bergen County.

John was the former fire chief of Andover Township Fire Department but was a lifelong member. He loved to go fishing and hunting and was a part of the Allamuchy Gun Club. John loved spending time with his family and enjoyed going to grandchildren’s sporting events, he will be remembered for being a great provider to his family and always putting them first.

He was the beloved husband of the late Hilda Mae Bauerlein.

John is survived by his children, Lisa Williams and her husband, Alex Dunlop, and Tina Williams and her husband, Jim; and his grandchildren, Ken, Brian, Luke and Emma.

Along with his parents, his brothers Roy and Henry Bauerlein predeceased John.

A memorial visitation was held Nov. 23 at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, Newton, N.J., followed by a memorial service.
