Phyllis J. Peragino of Hampton Township, N.J., died Friday, April 30, 2021, at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon, N.J. She was 89.

Phyllis was born in Union, N.J., to the late Charles and Myrtle (Wheeler) Beyer. She was raised in Union and spent her summers at her parents’ home in Paulinskill, N.J., where she eventually met her late husband, Michael Peragino.

Phyllis worked as a knitter and weaver for Darlington Mills in Newton, N.J., for many years. Phyllis was one of the founders of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Swartswood, N.J. She was very active with the church and loved to to help set up food baskets for the needy and assist with their many bazaars. P

hyllis was an honorary member of the former Swartswood Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling and the many years spent at Sparta Lanes; she also loved playing Bingo.

In addition to her parents and husband, Michael, Phyllis was also predeceased by her sister Betty Blackwell.

She is survived by her sister, Joan Lennington; daughter, Patricia Rumsey and fiancé, Andrew Dekmar; grandson, Michael Rumsey and wife, Tricia; great-granddaughter, Jordyn Rumsey; great-grandson, Daniel Rumsey; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Interment was to be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, Newton, N.J.
