Missing Vernon man found dead

VERNON — A missing Vernon man was found dead after a five-day search by Vernon township detectives and members of the New Jersey State Park Police on Thursday.

Police said Michael Bresett, 28, was reported missing on Saturday, Dec. 21 and his vehicle was located on Lake Wallkill Road in the area of the Appalachian Trail at 1;02 a.m. on Dec. 22. Bresett's body was found about 1 1/2 miles from his car in a remote wooded area, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morris County Medical Examiner's Office.

According to police, an investigation, assisted by the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office, concluded the incident was not suspicious in nature.
