Get the Midas touch on Halloween and enjoy area trunk-or-treats

Business. Many businesses and organizations will be holding Trunk or Treats this Halloween season. Here's a look at some of them.

On Halloween, Oct. 31, Newton Midas will be all about safe, fun trick-or-treating and will host a Trunk-or-Treating & Car Contest.

“We have about 200 people interested in coming to the event but need people to come park their cars and open their trunks to give out candy," said general manager Kerry Thompson, who took over the business last February. “This event is going to be fun, fun, fun,” she said. “We're encouraging people to decorate their cars for our car contest so if you have a black SUV, make it Frankenstein or a white car, make it a ghost.'

There will be some gift certificates for the winners.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, the Franklin Borough Recreation Committee will host a Halloween Trunk or Treat and parade. Cars are being sought to participate in the parade that has become a Franklin tradition.

After having been on the committee for the past two years, this is Recreation Chairwoman, Christina Sanchez's first year in charge.

“This event is really special because it gives all kids an opportunity to participate in a parade where they are in the spotlight,” she said. “They're always proud to show everyone their costumes and see their friends from school all dressed up”

Also on Oct. 19, the Fredon Recreation Commission will host a Trunk-or-Treat at bucolic Lodestar Park from 7 to 9 p.m. Trunks are due at the park by 6:30 p.m..

“For the first time this year, we are taking to social medial including Facebook, Instagram and other local sites to spread the word about our event,” said Fredon Recreation Commission secretary, Gail Kinney.

There will be prizes for the Best Trunk and Best Family Costume, and each child will receive a pumpkin, apples, cider and donuts. The event is funded by the Fredon Recreation Commission and is open to the public. For information visit https://www.facebook.com/events/528963460980247

On Thursday, Oct. 25, head to Byram at 5:30 p.m. for the Byram-a-Blaze & Trunk-or-Treat at Byram Lakes Elementary School. Registration is required to carve a pumpkin.

Hampton Township will hold its 5th Annual Trunk-orTreat on Saturday, October 26 at Hampton Park located behind the Hampton Municipal Building, starting at 6 pm.

“Planning involves getting in the registrations for people to be a trunk and getting the word out,” said coordinator Valerie Galizia who also serves as Hampton's Deputy Clerk and Recreation Commission Secretary.”

The event also includes a haunted hay ride, refreshments and games. It is free to the public and is sponsored by the Hampton Recreation Commission. To register as a trunk or for more information, e-mail Vgalizia@hamptondwp-nj.org.

On Sunday, Oct. 27, the Sparta Evangelical Free Church, 429 Lafayette Road, will host a Trunk-or-Treat from 3 to 4:30 p.m.. For further information, call 973-300-1717.
