School is back in session in Byram, and the newest members of the Intermediate School are ready to go!

Fifth grade students have now officially become middle schoolers and are fitting right in during this unprecedented virtual/hybrid school year.

This is a unique school year, where students are learning in a whole new way. The members of the Byram community have risen to the occasion!

We have already had a live virtual author visit with Lindsay Currie, author of “A Peculiar Incident on Shady Street,” and the newly released book, “Scritch Scratch.” According to her website, lindsaycurrie.com, “Lindsay Currie is the author of spooky middle grade novels. While she’s never experienced anything truly paranormal, Lindsay enjoys researching her city’s forgotten history and learning about the events that shaped the many ghost legends in Chicago.”

Lindsay Currie spent an hour speaking with the students about her novels, the writing process, and answering one-on-one student questions. She emphasized the importance of fully researching information before they begin writing, and how very important the revising process is while writing. She reminded the students that even though she is a published author, failure and writing blocks are something that she still struggles with, just like they do, and the need to continue to persevere through those stumbling blocks. We hope to continue having virtual author visits throughout the year.

All in all, it’s been a great start at the Byram Intermediate School, and we look forward to an amazing 2020-2021 school year!
