Newton - The Center for Prevention is honored to have Darryl Strawberry as keynote speaker for the Night of Hope Gala at 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 at Perona Farms. Darryl Strawberry is described as a legendary baseball player by many who have been dazzled by the dynamics of his game, the power he possessed at the plate, and the story of redemption that continues to bring hope to so many lives. He has earned the legendary nicknames and phrases of one of the most feared home run hitters in the game of baseball, Straw's Sweet Swing, Strawberry's Field Forever and The Legendary Straw Man.
Darryl has a heart for people, especially those who are faced with conditions, situations or battles in their lives that often bring a deep sense of hopelessness to the soul. As many people know, much of his life has been filled with inner struggles. However, that is not the case today.
"Today I have hope," he said. "No matter what comes your way, or how many times you may fall, you do not quit. You never give up. You get up and you keep moving. If there is breath in your body, there is purpose and reason for your life. Sometimes that is difficult, if not impossible at times to see. I do not know why we have to go through certain things in life, but I know that there is a purpose and a reason for everything."
News 12 NJ Anchor Roxanne Evans will be Master of Ceremonies and Senator Steve Oroho is special Honoree.
Event sponsors include Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, Newton Medical Center, Franklin Sussex Automall, Inc. and Thorlabs. For further information visit www.CenterForPrevention.org.
