Historic Glenwood is remembered with new historical marker
Glenwood. It took eight years for the Vernon Historical Preservation Commission to procure the marker, which was installed on a tract of land between the Glenwood Post Office and Pochuck Valley Farm.

A new historical marker was dedicated to honor the historic village of Glenwood. A group of Vernon history buffs, along with Mayor Howard Burrell, dedicated the historical plaque on Sunday, Sept. 27, against a backdrop of autumn leaves and apple and pumpkin picking at Pochuck Valley Farm.
It took eight years for the Vernon Historical Preservation Commission to procure the marker, which was installed on a tract of land between the Glenwood Post Office and Pochuck Valley Farm. Glenwood was settled in 1774 and was originally named North Vernon.
“In order for us to move our town of Vernon forward, we need to promote and remember our past,” said Mayor Burrell.
Burrell also touched on the historical significance of Glenwood and pointed out the village was the birthplace of Captain Daniel Bailey, a Civil War officer and influential, pioneer businessman.
