Mitchell Morrison of Sparta and Larry Orlans of Hopatcong were among 23 residents honored as outstanding senior citizens by Rep. Tom Kean Jr., R-7, on Dec. 8.

The congressman received more than 100 nominations for residents in the six counties in the 7th Congressional District.

Those honored were chosen for their long history of giving back to their community and for continuing to lend their expertise, experience and talents to help others.

“We had a strong response from residents throughout the six counties in our congressional district and received the names of many individuals who exemplify the very best of our neighborhoods, our state and our country,” Kean said.

“Each individual recognized is unique in their own way, but they all share a common denominator: a passion to give back to their community. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to share this event with everyone recognized, and I look forward to more events like this.”

Lee Moreau of Landing said he was honored to be recognized.

“It is really cool that Congressman Tom Kean Jr. shows up at Lake Hopatcong in support of veterans, the Lake Hopatcong Foundation block party and supports the Elks Lodge 782 Leap in the Lake fundraiser for our youth with significant challenges. Without a doubt, we are connected on common ground. With leadership, a shared vision and trust, a lot can be accomplished,” he said.

The others honorees were Barbara Agins of Somerville, Raymond Chimileski of Califon, Charles Fineran of Hackettstown, Thomas Foregger of Berkeley Heights, Jeffrey Katz of Springfield, Linda Kale of New Providence, Austin “Ken” Kutscher of Raritan Township, Shirley Lakatos of Berkeley Heights, James McCabe of Westfield, Robert and Dace McLaughlin of Basking Ridge, Howard “Howie” Meyer of New Providence, Mayor Al Morgan of New Providence, Barbara Perkins of Warren, Nancy Polow of Scotch Plains, Herb Waddell of Berkeley Heights, Ronald Whalin of Basking Ridge, Rudolph Willis of Warren, Rita Jordan of Branchburg and Rheva Smickel of Belvidere.
