Sept. 11 event to be held at 6 p.m. today at Sussex County Community College

A ceremony commemorating the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019 at Sussex County Community College (SCCC) in Newton on the Connor Green, directly in front of the 9/11 Memorial. There will be a flyover by the New Jersey Army National Guard Aviation Unit, with their helicopter on display after the ceremony.

The Local NJ Army National Guard Recruiting Unit: SSG. Cynthia Bengel and SFC. Fernando Cova-Gomez will be present honors. The keynote speech will be given by John Fila of Engine Co. 54 FDNY.

The Sussex County Sheriff’s Office and Bureau of Law Enforcement Honor Guard will lead the ceremonial detail. Police Pipes and Drums of Morris County and the Bugles Across America will play and the Boy Scouts of America will recite the Pledge of Allegiance. VFW Post #5360 will conduct a Gun Salute in Remembrance. Local law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel will lay wreaths.

SCCC students, parents, staff, and members of the public are encouraged to attend. The 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony is an annual event organized at the Sussex County Community College by members of P.B.A. Local #138.
