On Jan. 31, 2020, Byram Police Chief Peter J. Zabita said his last goodbyes to the force, as he moves on to his next venture. Members of the Byram Township Police Department thanked and congratulated the now retired Zabita. For 27 years he served Byram residents. In addition to his dedication to the police department and community, Zabita served for a combined 22 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and the New Jersey National Guard before retiring with the rank of Captain. He served in multiple combat theaters, including Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The newest Police Chief, Kenneth J. Burke, was sworn in this week.
