Driver stopped for speeding, arrested for marijuana

Sparta. On Aug. 31 at approximately 11:45 a.m., Sparta Police Officer Taylor May stopped a silver Honda for speeding, 80 mph in a 55 mph zone, on Route 15 north. Upon approaching the vehicle to speak with the driver, Kyla Clark-Nesbitt, 21, of Orange, N.J. Officer May smelled the odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle and asked Clark-Nesbitt about the odor. She stated that she and her passengers smoked earlier. A search of the vehicle and its occupants turned up marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Two of the passengers, Jason Walker, 21, of Newark, N.J., and Najee Wilson, 22, of Newark, N.J., claimed ownership of the marijuana and drug paraphernalia and were placed under arrest. They were transported to Sparta Police headquarters to be processed. Clark-Nesbitt was issued summonses for speeding and maintenance of lamps and released from the stop. Walker and Wilson were charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. They were advised of mandatory court appearances and released.
