Local athletes play on college teams

Several local student athletes made their mark in collegiate sports during the spring.

• Ryan Rigby and James Sanford, both graduates of Kittatinny Regional High School, played on the lacrosse team at Georgian Court University (GCU) in Lakewood. Rigby, a graduate student who played attack, competed in 12 games and recorded seven goals and four assists. Sanford, a sophomore who also played attack, started in all 18 games and posted nine goals and five assists.

The Lions tallied an overall record of 13-5, and they were 7-2 at home. In the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), they were 7-0. GCU went 1-1 in the CACC Championship Tournament with a victory over Post and a loss to Chestnut Hill.

• Brooke Bode and Emily Hotz, both graduates of Kittatinny, were members of the lacrosse squad at Centenary University in Hackettstown.

Hotz, a sophomore defender, started in all 13 games and posted a goal for Centenary.

Bode, a sophomore midfielder, was injured in the opening game and was sidelined for the season.

The Cyclones captured one victory, which they earned on their home field.

Hotz is listed as a biology major and Bode as a business and marketing major.

• Michael Inglima of Kittatinny was a long stick midfielder for the Centenary University lacrosse team this spring.

The junior competed in 14 games and started in 11 of them. He won 15 ground balls and had an assist.

Inglima is listed as a business management major.

• Kelly Ann Earrusso, a graduate of Lenape Valley Regional High School, was a pitcher and infielder for the Centenary University softball team. She appeared in nine games and started in five of them in the circle. She had two wins and 10 strikeouts.

The Cyclones had 15 overall wins, with a mark of 8-6 at home. They won five games in the Atlantic East Conference.

Centenary advanced to the Atlantic East Conference Tournament in Arlington, Va., where the team went 2-2 versus Marywood University.

Earrusso is listed as a biology and education major.

• Michael Campanella III, a Kittatinny grad, was a fifth-year defender on the lacrosse team at Drew University in Madison. He played in 15 games and started in three of them. He won nine ground balls.

The Rangers collected six overall victories, with three wins on their home field and one victory in the Landmark Conference.

Campanella is listed as an environmental science major.

• Abigail Wittig, a Newton High School graduate, was a junior infielder on the softball team at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park. She made the All Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) winter and spring academic honor roll and earned All MAC Freedom Sportsmanship Team honors this year.

The Devils had an overall record of 15-16 with four wins at home and six wins in the MAC Freedom Division.

Wittig is listed as a health sciences major.
