The coldest Thanksgiving Day on record did not dampen the resolve of hundreds of trotters, volunteers, sponsors and spectators who ventured out on Thanksgiving morning to take part in the 12th Annual Kroghs Turkey Trot. All proceeds from the race benefit the Sparta Education Foundation. To date, our Foundation has awarded grants in excess of $1,000,000 to our public schools. Please visit our website at spartaeducationfoundation.org to learn more about these grants and how you can become a part of the Foundation.
We are grateful to our sponsors, without whose generosity the Turkey Trot would not be possible. Please join us in thanking them with your patronage: Title Sponsor: Krogh’s Restaurant and Brew Pub. Gold Sponsor: Thorlabs. Grandstand Sponsor: RCCA Bib Sponsor: Eastern Propane. We also offer thanks to Villa Capri II restaurant for catering our pasta party, Augies Brooklyn Bagels and Deli and Stop and Shop for providing bagels and fruit for our runners, The Lake Mohawk Flower Company for runner bouquets, and to the Sparta Elks for lending their club to our volunteers. Thank you also to the Sparta Runners Club, who for the past 12 years has manned our parking lots. This year we would be remiss if we did not also thank the Sparta Police Department and Ambulance Squad for ensuring a cleared course and the safety of our runners. Finally, a very special thanks you to the Lake Mohawk Country Club for opening up their facilities and allowing us to host our pasta party and registration in the Club. All of these businesses and our sponsors truly personify the essence of community and we feel so fortunate to partner with them.
Each Thanksgiving, as the plaza fills with the energy of runners, neighbors, school children, and travelers returning home for the holidays, we are reminded of Sparta’s wonderful community heart and spirit and the role a strong public school system plays in its foundation. On behalf of the Sparta Education Foundation and the children of our public schools, we offer our gratitude and best wishes for the holiday season.
