Ithaca College Choir coming to Christ Church
NEWTON Christ Church Newton will host a performance by the renowned Ithaca College Choir on Thursday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. Under the direction of Lawrence Doebler, the Ithaca College Choir is recognized through its annual tour and many appearances as one of the most innovative ensembles at the collegiate level. The performance is free and open to the public, although a free will offering will be taken. Christ Church is located at 62 Main St., in the heart of downtown Newton. The Ithaca College Choir has toured extensively on the east coast and in the mid-west, and it has presented major concerts at the American Choral Directors Association Convention, Music Educators National Conference; Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, St. Patricks Cathedral, and Cooper Union in New York City; and at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn. In addition to their a capella tradition, the choir has performed with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble, as well as other professional ensembles. Lawrence Doebler, professor of music, serves as Director of Choral Activities at Ithaca College School of Music. In 2010 the Choir and faculty/student orchestra performed J.S. Bachs B Minor Mass on tour at the Strathmore Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and in Philadelphia. The Ithaca College Choral Union and Symphony Orchestra have performed at Lincoln Center in Avery Fisher Hall under Mr. Doeblers direction, most recently presenting Verdis Requiem with soprano Sharon Sweet. Mr. Doebler has received awards for research and teaching excellence from the University of Wisconsin and Ithaca College, and has appeared throughout the eastern and Midwestern United States and Ireland as a Clinician and as a Guest Conductor. Mr. Doeblers editions of Renaissance music are published by the Lorenz Company in the Roger Dean catalogue. In addition to his academic appointments, he has served as music director of the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble, and has been the director of music at churches in Cleveland, St. Louis, Madison, and Ithaca.
