William J. Alfund of Wantage, N.J., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at Newton Medical Center. He was 46.

Born in Kings Park, N.Y., Billy lived in Sussex County all of his life. He had been a self-employed building contractor.

Billy loved to fish and hunt and loved the outdoors. He loved his family, especially his niece and nephews. Billy was a great uncle to several, and he interacted with them in a way that was sweet to watch. He would have been a terrific father. Those that knew him the longest saw him mature and grow as a person of great compassion, empathy for others and a willingness to help anyone. Billy was a work in progress and those that knew him the longest delighted in his progress as an honest man of character. He could fix or build anything. He thought through his hands. Billy loved animals, especially dogs and horses.

Billy is survived by his mother, Marilyn P. Miller of Frankford, N.J.; father, William T. Alfund of Wantage; brothers, Christian Alfund and his wife, Kristine, of Belford, N.J., and Michael Alfund of Frankford; sister, Cyndi Alfund Turner of Tupper Lake, N.Y.; niece and nephews, Michael and his wife Sabrina, Tyler, Cassidy and her fianc Tom Crino, Brady and Matthew; great-nieces and -nephews, Jackson, Lucus, Karson, and Aayliah; and his beloved pups, Mama and Bella, who already miss him terribly.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex, N.J., with the Rev. Nancy Robinson officiating. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Due to New Jersey government health restrictions, attendees will be limited and are required to wear face masks at all times and practice proper social distancing. A celebration of Billy’s life will be held in the future.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to help defray the costs of the funeral.
