Black Maria Film Festival at SCCC
NEWTON Named after the first motion picture studio built by Thomas Edison in 1893, the annual Black Maria Film and Video Festival has become known for its cutting edge film art produced by independent video makers. MovieMaker Magazine listed it in their 25 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee. This year, the globally participated festival will bring its fifty video award-winning collection to Sussex County Community College (SCCC). All of the videos featured in the tour are an hour or less and fall into many different genres. All videos picked for the tour have been thoughtfully juried by notable artists. The tour has been displayed at such national institutions as the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, the DesMoines Art Center, the New York Public Library, and the Millennium Film Workshop in NYC, along with many different colleges and universities. The Black Maria Film Festival will be in the Performing Arts Center at SCCC on Friday, Febr. 17, at 7:30 p.m. Admission for the general public is $9 with discounts available to SCCC students, senior citizens, children and groups. There will be a second showing on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 10:50 a.m. in the PSE&G Student Center Theater. The second showing is $9 for the general public and free to students with a valid SCCC ID.
