Students at Byram Lakes Elementary School raised approximately $31,000 for the American Heart Association during this year’s Kids Heart Challenge fundraiser.

Led annually by the school’s physical education teachers, the Kids Heart Challenge encourages students to collect donations over a two-week period in support of heart health education and research. The program is similar to the former “Jump Rope for Heart” initiative.

The fundraiser culminated Feb. 12 with a “Jump Day,” during which students celebrated their efforts by participating in a variety of jump rope activities.

Principal Pete Morris said the school typically ranks among the top 10 fundraising schools in the state each year, an accomplishment he called notable for a small district.
