Carlos M. Ogando-Tavarez of Paterson was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Failure to Observe Signal, Unregistered Vehicle, Unregistered Trailer and Tinted Windows.

A Byram Township Police Officer observed a vehicle with tinted front windows fail to observe a traffic by driving through a red light on Rt. 206. A motor vehicle stop was initiated and while speaking to the driver, Ogando-Tavarez, the officer observed the handle of what appeared to be a weapon under the driver’s seat. Further investigation revealed there was a large military style knife under the driver’s seat. Ogando-Tavarez was asked about the knife and had several different answers as to why the knife was in the vehicle and what he uses it for. Ogando-Tavarez was arrested, and transported to the station.

He was then released pending a mandatory Sussex County Superior Court date.
