Young elected president of county chiefs association

Vernon Township Police Chief Daniel Young was recently elected president of the Sussex County Chiefs of Police Association for 2022 by his counterparts throughout the county, Mayor Howard Burrell announced at the April 11 Township Council Meeting.

He has been serving for the past three months. The organization is celebrating its 50th year in 2022.

According to Burrell, Young is tasked with leading the effort to further the development of relationships between the county’s law enforcement agencies, other organizations as well as state and federal entities.

So far, Young has led the organization of a county wide law enforcement training program, which will take place over two days in May at the Red Tail Lodge. The program is based on officer wellness and will feature a guest speaker in a retired police chief from Illinois.

“The type of wellness training that Chief Young has arranged is always vital to our law enforcement personnel, especially during these times of extra high levels of stress they face doing their daily jobs.”

Young also has been selected to participate in a group that is reviewing and developing law enforcement chiefs. Only 15 police chiefs in the state were selected to participate.

“I have known Chief Young for many years, and one of the many things that I admire about him is the fact that he always strives for continuous improvement,” Burrell said.

Young also recently completed his master’s degree in administration science with a focus on public administration. He will be awarded the degree at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s commencement ceremony on May 17.
