Innately kind and patient with all who entered her gracious path, Marjorie Frances Mellon Anderson, 88, passed away peacefully on Aug. 17, at her daughter Linda Anderson's home in Greenville, New York following a very hard - fought grace filled effort from a stroke in late February.
Born on Sept. 16, 1930 to Henry and Helen Mellon in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Margie loved words, music, flowers and spending time with her friends in downtown Beaver Falls at their favorite drug store gathering place, enjoying the ice cream counter and walking to see movies.
She graduated from Beaver Falls High School and proudly attended Geneva College, working as a secretary to the president for a time.
Margie married Richard (Dick) on June 16, 1956, at St. Philomenas Catholic Church in Beaver Falls.
Her life with Dick and their five children began in Mayfield Heights, Pennsylvania, followed by their first home in Brighton Township in 1960, while Dick was in labor relations at Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation, Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.
The family moved to Oakland, New Jersey, with Margie being a stay at home mom, running the busy household of five teenagers while Dick was working at Borden, Inc in New York City.
She embraced the new east coast life enjoying Broadway musicals and summer vacations at the Jersey Shore.
Being at the beach with her family, especially her grand kids, was one of her greatest joys in life.
Margie entered the professional workforce as a claims representative for Safeco Insurance in River Edge.
She then pursued her love of words working as an editorial assistant at Prentice Hall, in Paramus, completing her publishing career on 5th Avenue in lower Manhattan.
She loved the energy of the city - especially walking to Union Square for lunch.
Margie continued in editing at Aviation International News in Midland Park, until her retirement.
In all her positions, she truly cherished her friendships of colleagues and superiors alike, and felt honored to be in their company for the years they shared.
She and Dick retired to Highland Lakes, where she continued her care for people volunteering at Meals on Wheels, moving to West Milford in 2004.
Here, she lovingly cared for Dick as he was battling cancer until his passing in 2005.
Margie moved in with her daughter Linda in Greenville, New York, and then to Heritage Home for Women in Schenectady, which afforded her independent living in the loveliest setting with the kindest, most devoted staff.
Equally loving and extraordinary was the care she received at The Pines, Catskill, New York, where she received rehabilitation after her stroke.
Margie loved her kids, adored her grand kids, great grandson, family of many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and beloved long-time friends.
As a devout Roman Catholic, her faith was her bedrock, her family and friends, her treasure.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dick, brother Bob, sister-in-law Jean and many dearly beloved sisters and brothers-in-law, nephews Richard and John Teasdale, niece Margaret Kraus and great-niece, Laura Seward.
She is survived by children, Kathryn (Susan), Grand Haven, MI; Richard (Pauline), West Milford, NJ; Linda, Greenville, NY; Joan, Edward (Krishna) NY; grandchildren, Daniel (Lauren), Delran, NJ; Eric, West Milford, NJ; Mary, West Milford, NJ; Noah Cattell, Kirsten Cattell and Jared Anderson, NY and great-grandson, Owen, Delran, NJ.
A viewing was held at Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, La Rue Rd, Newfoundland, on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019 from 5-8 p.m.
The Funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 17 Pompton Avenue in Pompton Lakes.
She will be interred beside her husband at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Milford.
