Armchair travel program visits Egyptian sites

Vernon — Dr. James P. Kane will be a virtual tour guide for a lecture and slide presentation: Egypt, Past and Present at the Dorothy E. Henry Branch library on Sunday, Oct. 16. He'll show and speak about trips to Cairo, the majestic pyramids at Gaza, sailing the Nile to Luxor, the desert temple at Abu Simbal-on the Sudan border —one of earth’s rare sights. Kane, a former teacher, prep school headmaster, principal and for 25 years a superintendent of schools, is currently an adjunct professor of education at William Patterson University in Wayne. Among many honors, he is a recipient of the New Jersey Governor’s Medal, the state's highest honor in education, and the Distinguished Service Award from the New Jersey School Administration Association. He was called back to his alma mater Fordham University in 1995 to receive its prestigious Alumni Achievement Award. He was also honored by the Hamburg Education Association, and in 1997, Dr. Kane was elected to Who’s Who in America. His program on Egypt will be held at 3 p.m. in the Community Room of the Dorothy E. Henry Library on Route 94, Vernon at 3 p.m. Admission is free with a reception to follow. The program is suitable for middle school students, teens and adults, and is presented courtesy of The Friends of the Library, Dorothy E. Henry Branch.
