Colonial Christmas at Historical Society site

    Newton — A Colonial Christmas Open House will be hosted by the Sussex County Historical Society on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hill Museum, 82 Main Street, Newton. The open house shows visitors how Dutch, German and English settlers have influenced the way Americans celebrate the Christmas holidays today. Colonial treats and traditions will be featured. Guides dressed in period costume will be in the Colonial Hearth Room and Lydia Chiappini from Heaven’s Gate Farm will demonstrate how Colonial-era women used a spinning wheel to make yarn.
