NEWTON — The Dramatic Arts Option and the Performing Arts Club at Sussex County Community College (SCCC) will be making three performances of the powerful drama, The Laramie Project. The play documents the Tectonic Theater Project throughout the course of eighteen months as they interview citizens of Laramie, Wyoming during the trial of the two young men accused of kidnapping, beating, and killing Mathew Sheppard because of his sexuality. The theater troupe returned home to write this compelling drama displaying the depths of ignorance and the peaks of empathy people can reach. The play is composed of interviews with those directly connected with the murder, community members, and the personal reaction of the theater company. The performances will take place on Friday, May 4, at 8 p.m. and on Saturday, May 5, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at SCCC. Tickets are $5-10 with discounts available for SCCC students, seniors, and groups. For tickets and more information, call the SCCC Box Office at 973-300-3171.
