HOPATCONG On Jan. 18 Mitchell Ellicott of Hopatcong re-enlisted in the US Navy Reserves aboard the USS Iwo Jima. The second Navy ship to be named for the World War II battle, the Iwo Jima is a helicopter landing amphibious assault ship home-ported in Norfolk, VA. It's an honor to continue to serve and protect this great country, said Ellicott, who is a lieutenant in the Sussex County Sheriffs Department. Ellicott first joined the military in 2004 and served in the Middle East in 2009-10. A graduate of Vernon Township High School, Ellicott has lived in Hopatcong for 20 years. In addition to working in the Sheriffs Department and his Reserve duties, he has also been a volunteer with the Stanhope Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years. He and his wife, Linda, have four children, 6, 13, and 18-year old twins.
