Christie names October Parental Involvement in Education Month

Governor Chris Christie has declared October 2011 as “Parental Involvement in Education Month” in New Jersey. The proclamation was issued at the request of the New Jersey State Parent Information and Resource Center (NJPIRC), a program of Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey, to highlight the important role parents and families play in supporting and promoting their children’s education. With this proclamation, NJPIRC urges schools, parents and communities to take an active role in the education of New Jersey students, and encourages parents to work with their child’s school to review and implement parental involvement policies that promote meaningful communication and provide ongoing strategies to improve academic programs. To mark the importance of parent involvement in the educational process, NJPIRC is offering fifteen stipends to public schools to host a family involvement activity and free Parent Involvement Pledge Cards. Additionally, online and print resources for schools and community organizations have been developed to guide families and educators in working together in the school community.
