Newton Police

September 8 At 5:03 p.m., Newton Police investigated a suspicious vehicle parked behind a business on Sparta Avenue. The officers' investigation led them to arrest 19-year-old Newton resident Joseph B. Cody, and Harold E. Carlson, 21, of Andover Township on drug charges. Police allege that the two men parked their car behind the Dollar Store, walked to the adjoining woods, and smoked marijuana. Both were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled and dangerous substance, unlawful Use of a controlled and dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cody and Carlson were released on their own recognizance pending scheduled appearances in Newton Municipal Court later this month.
