NEWTON — Members of the Newton Police Department, First Aid Squad, Fire Department, Town Council, and the public gathered on Monday, Sept. 26, for a dedication ceremony of the Newton Police Department Memorial. "Whether 100 years or tomorrow, the dangers our officers face is ever present," said Special Officer Donald Donofrio. The department has 24 full time officers, three special officers, and 43 other employees. "We salute our current team of professionals who put their lives on the line to protect and serve," said Newton Mayor Helen Le Frois. "We're one big family here in Newton," said Robert McCracken of Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, who donated the memorial. "All these gentlemen and ladies associated with the police department make it happen."
