Students share their views on the ‘most beautiful places in Stanhope'

    STANHOPE-The Stanhope Environmental Commission awarded prizes to budding Stanhope artists in a poster contest titled "The Most Beautiful Place in Stanhope." The contest was designed to raise environmental awareness and to give people an appreciation for the uniqueness of Stanhope. The poster contest is a part of Stanhope's Centennial Celebration this year. More than 75 students in grades 3 through 8 took part in the contest. A subcommittee of the Stanhope Environmental Commission comprised of Catherine Flannigan, Cynthia Henn and Allison Miskulin juried the entries. Prizes and certificates were awarded for first-, second- and third-places and honorable mention in three grade-based categories. Third- and fourth-grade winners were: First place - Coriene Schmiedhauser, Second Place - Bobby Harris, Third Place - Christy Taylor, and Honorable Mention - Josh Mankin. Fifth- and sixth-grade winners were: First place - Cassidy Durant, Second Place - Kristen Portington, Third Place - Marissa Pisano, and Honorable Mention - Ellen Mahon. Seventh- and eighth-grade winners were: First place - Michelle LaBell, Second Place - Sarah Connelly, Third Place - Victoria French, and Honorable Mention - Marissa Ferraro. The first- and second-place winning posters were displayed at the Stanhope Environmental Commission table on Stanhope Day, June 13.
