Acting-A-Part holding auditions for new actors
Sparta - Acting A Part® is a professionally run theater and educational program in Sparta. Led by Director, Erika Lupo, a certified teacher with a degree in creative writing and theater, the Acting A Part® experience is an exciting and imaginative journey into the world of theater. Students of all ages learn a variety of theater techniques including: acting, dance movements, improvisation, singing, stage presence, voice projection, and also explore and understand auditions, choreography, lighting, and how music is critical to a successful performance. “Several new workshops are about to begin that I’m really excited about,” said owner/director Lupo. “I’m going to offer a class to adults in which they will have the opportunity to act in a dramatic version of A Christmas Carol to a live audience. They will perform for a dinner theater audience as well as a general theater audience. Throughout the past few seasons, parents would drop off their children and tell me how they wished they too could have an acting class with a live production.” Now that dream is a reality. On Thursday evenings from 7 - 9 p.m. beginning Oct. 5, the stage at Acting A Part® will be filled with adults aged 18 and over who have always wanted to star in a theater production. The show will be co-produced by Lupo and Otto Salamon, an Emmy Award-winning film and TV producer. In December, these same students will present the finished production for three nights to live audiences, including a dinner theater audience. There are no auditions required, so if you are interested in trying your hand at theater in a no-pressure environment, contact Acting A Part® now during open enrollment. Tuition is $375 for aspiring actors, and tickets for performances can soon be purchased on the Web site. Acting-A-Part® is also offering an adult acting class on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 8 p.m. The course will be taught by Otto Salamon, and will run through the middle of December. The class will focus on theater techniques used by the actors of theater and movies. Students will feel as if they are in a New York theater learning scene and character study, improvisation, blocking and how to be an actor. This course has ongoing enrollment and tuition is also $375. “Probably even more exciting for us at Acting-A-Part® is the expansion of our staff,” Lupo said. “I’ve added two new top-notch pianists. Their experience is extensive, and they both teach private piano and vocal lessons, and will be offering private and/or group lessons at Acting-A-Part®. I hope the students will take advantage of the convenience of lessons here at the studio, as well as the quality of instruction they will get with our new musicians.” The private lessons fit right into Lupo’s current expansion plans. Acting-A-Part® in keeping with its commitment of providing quality education, is now seeking to expand its learning center. Its newly founded Learning-A-Part Academy is hiring qualified tutors in all subjects including the SATS and for all ages. Starting in October, we will be available for tutoring weekdays, evenings and weekends. Please forward your professional resume if you would like to be considered as a tutor. Acting-A-Part® is also offering creative writing classes to home schooled children on Mondays and/or Wednesdays from 10 - 11 a.m. Students will learn creative writing techniques as well as sure-fire ways to help them write creatively and enjoy the art of writing. They will work on a variety of genres, and will focus on editing skills, while they research topics including a time-period story where they will be able to choose their favorite time period. Sign-ups are occurring now, since the Fall semester begins Oct. 1 and runs through Dec. 15. “Several new workshops are set to begin in January that will be great opportunities for students to learn hands-on skills,” said Lupo. “The most exciting project is our new Film School in which students will be working on a MySpace.com documentary, and their work may be entered into local and state film festivals.” The Film School is the brainchild of Lupo and Bill Sandsone of Visual Works in Branchville, who will be leading the classes. Students will learn all aspects of film making on actual equipment. Enrollment ends Nov. 1, and classes will run from Jan. 3, to June 2, 2007. Additionally, other Winter workshops include High School Musical, Lion Witch and the Wardrobe, and Finding Nemo. Registration for these classes is ongoing until Nov. 1.
