All aboard! Railroad lore for kids

    FRANKLIN-Local author and historian William R. Truran will give a dynamic presentation on the history of Franklin Borough's railroads at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Franklin Branch of the Sussex County Library, 103 Main St. Original telegraph equipment that operated at the Franklin station will be available for hands-on display, and kids will get a chance to try tapping out a Morse code message. Dr. Truran, a graduate of Franklin Elementary School and Franklin High School, is a college professor and avid student of local history. He is the author of two books, Franklin, Hamburg, Ogdensburg, and Hardyston (Images of America: New Jersey) and Sparta, NJ: Head of the Wallkill. Students ages 10 and up are welcome.
