wANTAGE-The New Taste Chinese Restaurant located in the Wantage Plaza on Route 23 for the past 17 years has recently expanded to become New China Taste. The owner and operator of New Taste has gone into partnership with Mei Gang Zheng, who brings sushi and other Japanese items to the new and expanded menu. New China Taste has seating for approximately 100 people having taken over the unit that previously housed Annie's Book Stop, which relocated to one of the units previously taken up by Ames. The completely renovated restaurant is plushly decorated with wall to wall carpets and subtle lighting in stark contrast to the sparse decor of the old New Taste, which did a mostly take out business. A buffet with more than 100 items daily is the centerpiece of the new restaurant. "We have a sushi bar and include a nice selection of sushi in the buffet, we also have soup, appetizers, beef, pork, chicken, teriyaki and a big selection of seafood like shrimp, salmon, snow crab and mussels," said Kevin Jheng, one of two sushi chefs. "Its very good value; our lunch buffet is $6.95, our dinner buffet is $9.95. We also do carry out buffet by weight." The news of an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet that also had sushi is what brought Hamburg residents Cande Murphy and Marla Liscinsky to try out New China Taste. "There really isn't anywhere like this around here, and we are delighted to be able to get sushi and all of the other things that are available in the buffet, plus its really good value," they said. The New China Taste is open daily 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. and has a comprehensive Japanese/Chinese menu which is also available for carry out. For more information, call 973-875-1414 or 973-875-8691.
