Art exhibit set

Newton The Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council Gallery is showing work by contemporary ceramicist Bonnie Gaspar in their current group exhibit, Bits and Pieces. Gaspar’s hand built ceramic vessels are inspired by her love of nature. Working with slabs of clay, she utilizes the organic line as seen in twisted tree trunks, plant life and the folds of material. Her vessels are kiln fired raku clay or red clay with Terra Sigillata applied to the surface. The forms are re-fired in a barrel filled with sawdust along with copper sulphate or other colorants and organic materials. The artist is quoted saying, “the figurative nature of my work is expressive and rooted in movement, but the forms are all about energy and passion.” Gaspar’s work will be on display through Oct. 21. Other works by accomplished local artists include oil, mixed media, photography and collage.
