On Tuesday, March 29, Bruce Harper, who holds the NY JETS record in punt and kick return yardage, addressed Sparta High School coaches, junior and senior athletes and marching band members about the importance of good character, sportsmanship and teamwork. Harper is the founder of Heroes & Cool Kids, a student mentoring program. Following his presentation, the students and their coaches enjoyed breakfast in the cafeteria along with the chance for a more informal question and answer session with Harper. The visit was part of "Commitment to Excellence," a school initiative that encourages greater emphasis on the ethical and character-building aspects in athletic competition. In the fall Sparta High School students will work with Heroes & Cool Kids as part of the Commitment to Excellence program.
