Auditions for Christmas opera 'Amahl and The Night Visitors'

    Sussex Borough — Cornerstone Playhouse will hold auditions for Gian Carlo Minotti’s classic Christmas opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” on Monday, Oct. 24 and Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the historic Crescent Theater at 74 Fountain Square from 7 to 9 p.m. Those auditioning should come prepared with a classic piece of music to perform. An accompanist will be provided. Performance dates are set for weekends in mid-December. The cast is as follows: Amahl, a crippled boy of about 12: boy soprano His mother: soprano Kaspar, a king, slightly deaf: tenor Melchior, a king: baritone Balthazar, a king: bass The page: bass Chorus of shepherds and villagers Dancers About the opera Composed in 1951 "Amahl" is Minotti’s most successful opera. Only 46 minutes in length, it was originally produced for TV as the debut of the Hallmark Hall of Fame by NBC Opera Theater. This production will be directed by Barbara Smith Davis of Vernon and produced by Cornerstone’s Artistic Director Scott Mason also of Vernon. “Amahl is a delightful and charming opera and is perfect for Cornerstone’s first venture into the world of opera,” says Mason. “We hope that the Amahl auditions bring new performers to our family, and inspires new audiences to visit our theater.” For further information call Mason at 973-875-8465.
